2 days ago, Microsoft announced the new licensing scheme and available editions for SQL 2012.
In a nutshell:
- SQL 2012 will be available in 3 major editions: Standard, BI, and Enterprise.
- Web, Developer and Express editions will also be available
- SQL 2012 licenses will be core based and/or user and device based.
- Cloud optimized licensing with “floating” virtual core licenses.
